Ionian Sea Adventure (7 islands)

Highlights: An Ionian islands hopping R.I.B boat adventure and Trekking in Astakos, Kastos, Kalamos, Meganisi, Lefkada, Ithaka, Kefalonia islands.

Day 1

Athens – Astakos – Kastos

A car with a driver will pick up the passengers from the airport and after 3,5 yours trip, they will be welcomed with a cold beer, or refreshment by their skipper at Astakos port in Ionian sea. We sail to Kastos island which is only 12 miles from Astakos. The sole small village in the island is situated at the east side and is populated by 50 people only, a number which increases greatly in summer time. Kastos village is built in a bay well protected from the winds. Kastos apart from having small beaches, excellent for swimming, is ideal for trekking among the stone houses, the olive groves, the old olive press and the wind mill ruinous, where we can see its wooden mechanism.  We walk a distance of 2 kms to Sarakiniko, at the west side of the island, where we meet the boat and sail back to the port. Sailing around the island will wake the explorer in us.

Day 2

Kastos – Kalamos

Within breath distance, is the island of Kalamos. Its population is 500 people, who live in the two villages, Kalamos and Episcopi. The island is famous for its pebble beaches. A mountain (800 meters high) runs across the island, wooded with pine trees, excellent for trekking. Smell of pine everywhere. At the port, there are traditional taverns who serve the morning catch along with Greek specialties. Our short walk to Spiatzia, will unveil to us, some of the islands beauties.

Day 3

Kalamos – Meganisi

We sail to Meganisi (big island) 14 miles from Kalamos, which is opposite Lefkada. It has three villages. Katomeri is a picturesque village with small traditional shops and genuine night life. Vathi is built alongside the natural port. Spartochori, where we will stay for the night, with its mazy narrow streets and the amazing view to the sea and to Spilia, a cove with a beautiful beach. In summer time, a lot of sailing boats find shelter here. Meganisi is an ideal destination for those who seek the tranquility of the Greek landscape, in traditional scenery with authentic people. Our walk will be from Vathi – Katomeri – Elia.

Day 4

Meganisi – Lefkada

Sailing to Lefkada, we will swim at the famous Scorpios, the island of the Greek tycoon Aristotle Onassis, opposite the cosmopolitan Nydri. Lefkada is the 4th island, both in size and population among the Ionian islands. Due to its size, we will sail only the south part of the island. Doing so, we will visit a huge cave at the west side of Meganisi island, where in WWII a Greek submarine was hiding from the enemy airplanes. During the day, we stop at various beaches for swimming. We overnight at Sybota village, a well hidden port at the south.

Day 5

Lefkada – Ithaka

We sail to Aghiofili beach, for a morning swim, and then we walk for 3 kms to Vasiliki, where we will meet the boat. Sailing south, we will admire the lighthouse at the heights of Cape Doucato. Lefkada’s beaches are famous all over the world, and many of them are voted as the best beaches in the Mediterranean sea, like Porto Katsiki and Egremnoi at the west side. We will swim at both of them. We sail to Ithaca island, famous from the ancient times from king Ulysses. Apart from its many trekking paths, the true explore of the island is done by boat. We sail the innumerous beaches accessible only by boat and after walking for 5 kms from Frikes, we overnight at the scenic stage village of Kioni at the east side of the island. The trees reach the beaches, forming a combination of unique beauty.

Day 6

Ithaka – Kefalonia

West from Ithaca is Cephalonia, which is the biggest island of the Eptanisa. We will explore the eastern part facing Ithaca island. The mountainous relief forms unique beaches, golden sand, emerald waters and impressive cliffs. We will stay at Fiskardo port and our walk will be from Fiscardo to Emplisi. Early in the afternoon we sail to Astakos, to meet our driver who will take us back to Athens.

Ionian islands or Eptanisa (seven islands) is the favorite place of people who love sea. This tour is for 6 people who will have at their sole disposition the boat with its skipper, who has excellent knowledge of the islands and is First Aid trained. They will swim at isolated beaches, with crystal waters and pine trees reaching the sea wave, far away from the bustling touristic places, they will explore sea caves, eat fresh fish, drinking the traditional Greek appetizer ouzo, they will dance to Greek music and they wander at noisy clubs and bars, if they want to. The tour will cover round 250 miles

 INFO: R.I.B boat

The boat is a R.I.B (Rigid Inflatable Boat), 6,60 meters long, built by the famous Greek brand Predator. Its main motor is an outboard Yamaha 200 HP and an auxiliary one of 9.9 HP. It can carry 8 people, has great storage capacity and a refrigerator for drinks and fruit. It also, has a tent to protect passengers from the strong Greek sun and equipped with all the necessary safety and navigational equipment. Snorkeling equipment is available for all passengers and at an extra charge, sea skiing can be arranged.
