Pilgrimage to Greece by Land

Day 1

Arrival to Athens

Transfer to the hotel in Athens. Optionally you can have a Greek night at Plaka (Athens old town), in a Greek tavern with folklore program. Overnight in Athens

Day 2

Athens city tour

Athens sightseeing, Acropolis with its Parthenon and its new museum, a place any civilized person has to visit, Constitution Sq. Presidential Place, Olympic Stadium where the first modern Olympic Games took place in 1896. Visit the Mars Hill, where St.Paul made his famous speech to the Athenians for the “Unknown God” are the places to see today. In the afternoon we drive to Delphi where we have our dinner and overnight.

Day 3

Delphi

After breakfast we’ll visit Delphi the naval “omfalos” of the world. We’ll see the archeological site and the museum. Afterwards we’ll visit the Monastery of Osios Loucas. First church of the Monastery was built in 950pd. Then driving through central Greece we arrive at Kalabaka where we have our dinner and overnight.

Day 4

Meteora

This day will see Meteora. We’ll visit the Byzantine Monasteries standing between earth and sky atop huge rocks and we’ll enjoy the unique and most impressive scenery. In the Monasteries there are historical and religious treasures. Monks seeking isolation and spiritual salvation first built those monasteries in the 14th century. In the afternoon we arrive at Thessaloniki where we have our dinner and overnight.

Day 5

Thessaloniki city tour

Thessaloniki the city to which St, Paul wrote two “epistoles”. Today we have the sightseeing of the city, visit of Byzantine Churches of Aghia Sophia and St.Dimitrios, and other places connected to St.Paul. Dinner and overnight in Thessaloniki.

Day 6

Philippi and Kavala

This morning driving through the picturesque county of North Greece we arrive to Kavala. We’ll visit Philippi the place which St.Paul visited twice on his missionary journeys and where he established a strong church. We will see the places where St.Paul stepped first time in Europe, where Lydia was baptized and became the first convert, Philippia Agora, Apostle Paul’s and St. Sylas prison. After a short stop in Kavala we drive back to Thessaloniki where we will have our dinner and overnight.

Day 7

Vergina, Veria and Thermopylae

This morning we’ll visit Vergina to see the tomb of King Philip, father of Alexander the Great, and the famous Vergina gold Treasure. We’ll see Veria where St. Paul preached Christianity. Then driving through central Greece and after a short stop at Leonidas’ monument we arrive in the evening in Athens.

Day 8

Ancient Corinth and departure

This morning we’ll visit Ancient Corinth to see the agora, the pillars, steps, and public worship place where St. Paul preached. St. Paul established a strong church here to which he addressed two letters. After a short stop at the impressive-so narrow and deep- Corinth canal we visit the Monastery of Osios Potapios. In the afternoon we return to Athens for your departure. Alternatively, you can have an extra night in Athens.
