Highlights: Athens sightseeing with Acropolis and its new museum – Delphi – Meteora – Zagorochoria – Ioannina – Kastoria – Edessa – Pela – Thessaloniki – Vergina – Pelio

Day 1

Athens – Delphi

Morning arrival to Athens Airport. After meeting in the airport, you will be transfer to the heart of Athens where you will have the opportunity to admire Acropolis, the architectural masterpieces of the Golden Age of Athens, Propylaea, Temple of Athena Nike, Erechtheion, and finally Parthenon – a place any civilized person has to visit. We complete the visit with the New Museum of Acropolis. We will also see Temple of Zeus – chief of the gods. After the meeting with ancient civilization we will visit Athens old town – Plaka. We will finish our tour in Athens with a walk in Ermou street with its fashionable shops. In the afternoon departure to Delphi where we will have dinner in local restaurant and overnight.

Day 2

Delphi – Kalabaka

Breakfast in the hotel and check out. After leaving from the hotel we will visit the archaeological site of Delphi, the omphalos (Centre) of the world. This is the place where you might get Pythia’s chrism for your future and the future of the world, as many other Kings and Emperors in the past have done. Even Alexander the Great got her advice before conquering the word. We will see also the Stadium and Amphitheatre. After sightseeing we will leave to Kalabaka. Dinner at the hotel. Overnight.

Day 3

Kalabaka – Meteora – Ioannina – Monodendri

Breakfast in the hotel and check out. Today will visit two of Byzantine Monasteries standing between earth and the sky on the top of huge rocks and containing historical and religious treasures. Monasteries were founded in the 14th-16th century by a monk from Mount Athos. Then driving towards Pindus Mountain, the 2nd tallest mountain in Greece – area of extremely beautiful landscapes, and the most diverse mosaic of forest types. We will make a short stay at the Greek traditional village of Metsovo and we will walk around at Ioannina beautiful city, where we can visit the town with its numerous local traditional art shops, the castle and the small island of “kira Frossini” with its tragic history. After we will drive to Monodendri. A traditional settlement with old houses and spots with beautiful view, near the Gorge of Vikos, in the National Forest of Vikos – Aoos. Dinner at hotel / local tavern and overnight in Monodendri.

Day 4

Monodendri – Vikos – Aoos – Kastoria

After breakfast and check out we will continue discovering of Vikos – Aoos National Park. We will see beautiful Gorges of Vikos and Aoos and rivers passing through them. After these unforgettable meeting with Greek fauna and flora we will continue our trip to Kastoria – one of the most beautiful cities in the area of Macedonia, situated by the lake, known as a centre of the manufacturing and trading of furs. After sightseeing in Kastoria we will eat dinner at the local tavern. Overnight.

Day 5

Kastoria – Edessa – Pella – Thessaloniki

After breakfast and check out we will visit Kastoria and then after sightseeing we will continue to Edessa where we’ll have a stop to see the waterfalls and we’ll continue to Pella, capital of Macedonian in the ancient times. Then drive to Thessaloniki. In the evening, dinner in a local tavern with Greek music and folklore show. Overnight in Thessaloniki.

Day 6

Thessaloniki city tour

After breakfast, we will spend all day in Thessaloniki visiting the White Tower built in 15th century. After we will see Jewish Museum showing the history of Sephardic Jews and Jewish life in Thessaloniki. We will visit as well the main Synagogue, the only one remaining of the 40 synagogues that existed in the city before World War II. It was built in 1925 and was inaugurated in 1927. We continue our city tour visiting two Byzantine churches and the archaeological Museum where we will see finds from the Archaic, Classical, Hellenistic and Roman periods, mostly from the city of Thessaloniki but also from the region of Macedonia in general. Dinner in local tavern. Overnight.

Day 7

Thessaloniki – Volos – Pelio

Today we continue our tour with a guided visit to Vergina to see the tomb of King Philip, Alexander’s the Great father, and the Vergina treasures. We head south to Volos and we arrive in Portaria – one of 24 villages of Mt. Pelion, the Centaurs country. The houses, its windows and its doors are painted beautifully with a variety of colours. Dinner in tavern and overnight in Portaria or Hania.

Day 8

Pelio – Athens – Departure

Breakfast and check out. We start our way back by a tour in Pelion to admire the nature in its best. We stop in Volos in a tsipouradiko (local harbor “cafes”) to drink a tsipouro that usually comes with mezes (appetizers) served in small plates. The dominant flavor in this ritual are all forms of seafood: octopus, cuttlefish, mussels, oysters, bubbles, scallops, clams and small fish. Some shopping too and we continue to Athens and after a short stop at Thermopiles to see Leonidas monument we arrive late in the evening to the airport for your flight back home.
